As we reported yesterday, LS sophomore Asher Vongtau was rescued by FDNY firefighters from a crevice between Lafayette Hall and a neighboring parking garage Sunday evening after falling and being stuck there for over 35 hours. Vongtau, who was taken to Bellevue Medical Center in stable condition, is now recovering from a fractured skull, pelvis, and arm, along with bruises to his liver and spleen, according to his mother Habiba. While the circumstances of Vongtau’s fall were initially unclear, he has since reportedly told police officers that he was drinking at a party at the time and fell from a fire escape into the gap after going out for some fresh air.
We corroborated the students’ accounts with a response from NYU Public Safety and Vongtau’s statements to the cops as reported by other media outlets to get this clearer version of yesterday’s events at Lafayette Hall.
